Barry Sontag, played by Danton Stone, is a minor character on The Sopranos.
Background[]
Barry and his family, consisting of his wife, two kids, and family dog, were pulling into a parking garage in New York City when they were accosted by two car thieves, who ordered them to leave the vehicle at gunpoint. After panickedly exiting the newly bought car, the Sontags realize that they left their dog Churchill inside. While Barry's son Evan tries to get Churchill to attack the thieves, the robbers instead release the animal before driving off, being futilely chased after by Churchill, despite the family's calls to come back. In a fit of frustration, Barry uses a profane racial epithet, scaring his young daughter and earning him disapproval from his wife, to which he retorts "Who else, huh?! Who else?", not knowing that the theft, only one of many, was not a random crime of opportunity, but rather a lucrative side-business undertaken by order of DiMeo crime family boss Tony Soprano.
Trivia[]
- Despite his first name being given in the episode, he is only credited as "Mr. Sontag", similarly to the rest of his family.
- In their brief appearance, Barry's wife complains about her husband always mishandling their regular Sunday drive. The surname Sontag (or rather Sonntag) translates to Sunday in German.
