It’s explained by Carmela that while Tony B. was in prison, he smuggled his semen out so that he could impregnate his wife Nancy. This is how the twins were conceived.
They were first introduced sometime after their father’s release from prison after 9 years. When Tony B. plans to open a massage salon in an empty space, the twins are in there playing their game boys, and he tells them that its time to put them away and do homework. He shows them how to use an axe to chop the wall. Tony and the twins attend the Sopranos pool party for Carmela’s father’s 75th birthday. After the party, when they got home, their father isn’t happy that one of them has stole from A.J’s pin collection.
