Biography[]

Background[]

Bobby Sr. was a longtime member of the DiMeo family, and worked for Junior Soprano for many years.[2] In his younger years, he was known as a fearsome and lethal gangster. He had a legitimate job as a barber, and with the many anxieties of mob life, he often remarked sometimes he would have liked to cut hair full-time.[1] A devoted father, he raised his son Bobby well, who would later have many fond memories of his father taking him out to go hunting in the woods.[3] He never planned for Bobby to join his lifestyle, which he ultimately did.[1] Bobby Sr. was also a lifelong smoker, and was apparently addicted to Camel cigarettes "since he's in short pants". In 1992, he retired to Miami, Florida after a long mob career.[2]

Season 3[]

Tony requests Bobby Sr.'s blessing for the murder of his godson.

At the funeral mass for Carmela's uncle Febby, who succumbed to cancer, Tony spots Bobby and his father, who has a noticeable severe cough. After the service, Tony warmly greets Bobby Sr., asking him what he is doing outside Miami, to which he responds he has come to spend time with his grandchildren and to consult his doctor. He also offers Tony his condolences, which he appreciates, but on a more serious tone, he pulls him aside to confide in him about business. Bobby Sr.'s godson, Mustang Sally Intile, a much maligned low-level associate, critically assaulted Bryan Spatafore, the brother of made man Vito Spatafore, with a golf club, leaving him in the emergency room. Bobby Sr. insults Sally, stating he merely baptized him as a favor to his father. Tony ominously says this isn't his first infraction, and Bobby Sr. solemnly tells him to "do what [he's] gotta do". Tony thanks him, saying he simply wanted him to know, and Bobby Sr. thanks him back, as well as for taking good care of Bobby. They then both playingly laugh at Junior's "medical condition" which helped him evade prison. He says goodbye to Tony and then leaves. Tony takes notice of his cough, and Junior confirms he suffers from lung cancer as a result of his smoking habit.[2]

Returned to New Jersey from semi-retirement in 2000. Suffered from lung cancer after a lifelong smoking habit. In "Another Toothpick", Tony Soprano gave him the task of killing Salvatore "Mustang Sally" Intile. The hit was ordered as retribution for the savage beating of Bryan Spatafore, brother of Made man Vito Spatafore.

Vito was a made man in the Aprile crew at the time. Mustang Sally was Robert's godson but he felt he had always been a problem so he had no reservations about the job and was glad to be of use. Despite his poor health, persistent cough, and shortness of breath on exertion, he was able to overwhelm and kill the much younger Mustang Sally and his friend Carlos. After the killings he found some cigarettes and started smoking again. He died after choking on blood brought on from his lung cancer, losing control of his car, and crashing into a sign post while driving away.
