Listen, there's something I need you to do… I got a call from Fritzie up in Boston. Now, there's a guy named Teddy Spirodakis who owes some money.

Fritzie is an unseen character on The Sopranos. He is a contact of the Soprano crime family in Boston, and possibly a loan shark.[1]

Biography[]

Season 6[]

Part I[]

Fritzie is mentioned by Christopher when telling Eugene Pontecorvo about a debtor up in Boston they need to deal with. He tells Eugene that Fritzie called him about this individual, Teddy Spirodakis, and that he's passed his "final notice time" (Eugene has to kill him). Despite his resistance to doing it, as he needs to check it with his captain Vito (and the fact that Eugene is secretly a confidential informant), Christopher convinces him that in return, he'll put in good word to Tony about him wanting to retire to Florida. Eugene agrees, and he shoots Teddy dead in a Boston diner.[1]

Personality[]

Despite his one-off mention, it can be inferred from Christopher's comments that Fritzie made a living through gambling operations, and therefore did not necessarily have a very high moral compass considering he was involved in Teddy Spirodakis’s murder.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In the season 2 episode "The Happy Wanderer", Christopher and Sean Gismonte talk about a certain "Fritzie Neste from Hoboken", and mention how he is one of the players at the family's high-end card games.[2] There is a chance these two are the same individual, but given how this article's subject operates in Boston, this is unlikely, taking into account how Season 2's Fritzie is specifically noted as being "from Hoboken".
  • Fritzie's exact involvement within the crime family is unknown. While he seems to be under Christopher, since he informs Christopher of a problem with one of his debtors, he is not seen or mentioned again for the remainder of the series, so perhaps he is in fact a DiMeo associate with operations in Boston. Alternatively, he could be a member of an organized crime family in Boston allied with the DiMeos (in real life, the Mafia organization in Boston is the Patriarca crime family, which also operates in Providence, Rhode Island).[1]
  • The name Fritzie could imply he comes from Jewish heritage, and given he’s possibly a loan shark that is apparently partnered with Christopher, parallels Tony and Hesh Rabkin.
