The Sopranos Wiki

Isola "Queen Isola" is the longtime mistress of Harold McBrayer, and the mother of Landers.

The Many Saints of Newark[]

Isola is first seen talking with her son Landers about how the Numbers business that Harold operates for the DiMeo family works, and explains how he is one of the main reasons "the Italians" are as rich as they are.

Later after Harold killed a gangbanger named Leon Overall, Isola comes to bed with Harold, and talks about the recent sign ups to join the U.S. Army and fight in the Vietnam War. Harold says he can't do it because of his convictions in the past. Isola says with many fellow black people dying in Vietnam it's best not to add anymore to that fight. Harold says that someone's gotta win the Medal of Honor, but she sarcastically says "not a black man". Harold is saddened by this, but she is clueless, commenting that he's a "riot” that night.

During the beginning of the Newark riots, Harold and Isola are walking out of a bar, and see the fires in the distance.

In 1972, When Harold's Cyril "Cousin Cyril" is killed, Isola tells Harold about it, which upsets him.

Trivia[]

  • An undated script for The Many Saint of Newark gives some background information on Isola, but since the same script contains much unused or scrapped material, it's questionable whether this applies to the final cut.
    • Isola is another one of Harold's lovers, and is the madam of a brothel co-operated by the DiMeo family.
      • Related to this, Landers, who is Isola's son in the movie, is actually the son of a 28-year-old prostitute at her brothel and not related to her. Her talk with Landers was also significantly cut down from its original length in the final version.
    • Isola's name is spelled "Izola" in the script and the character almost exclusively referred to as "Queen" or "The Queen".
    • Isola's age is given as "late 30s" in 1967.
