James John Gandolfini (September 18, 1961 – June 19, 2013) was an American actor and producer. He portrayed Tony Soprano in the lead role of The Sopranos.

His son, Michael Gandolfini, played a young Tony Soprano in The Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.

Six years after the show ended in 2013, Gandolfini became the second main cast member of The Sopranos to die, following Nancy Marchand's death in 2000.
