James Joseph Gandolfini Jr. (September 18, 1961 – June 19, 2013) was an American actor and producer. He portrayed Tony Soprano in the lead role of The Sopranos.

Following the death of Livia Soprano actress Nancy Marchand in 2000, James Gandolfini was the second main/supporting actor on The Sopranos to die, in 2013, six years after the series stopped making new episodes.

His son, Michael Gandolfini, played a young Tony Soprano in the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark.
