Background[]

It ain't just that he helps me with the disease, Tone, this guy's great at forging documents.
Christopher Moltisanti on Murmur[src]

Murmur got his nickname from his childhood condition which made his heart beat faster;[1] as an adult, he became an alcoholic and fought with sobriety for a long time, before entering Alcoholics Anonymous and recovering, serving as a sponsor for other struggling addicts. Around 2005, he met Christopher Moltisanti during an AA session, and they became friends. Murmur was not only valuable for Christopher in terms of battling his disease, but he was also a master counterfeiter, being able to forge many false documents and records.[2]

Murmur attends the funeral of DiMeo family capo and informant Raymond "Buffalo Ray" Curto, where he makes an insensitive joke about knowing a Vietnam veteran who drank formaldehyde during the war to get high. When Anthony "Tony" Soprano Sr., evidently annoyed at his presence, whispers in Christopher's ear as to why he had to bring Murmur along, he explains that not only is he his recovery sponsor but also very adept at forgery and falsification of records.[2]

"Murmur" made Christopher's rounds while Christopher was in L.A. - buying credit card numbers from a pizza parlor and from Hillel at the Teittleman's hotel, then selling the numbers to Muhammed and Ahmed at the Bada Bing. "Murmur" also went out to L.A. to meet Christopher because Christopher was "chipping" (relapsing). While there, "Murmur" and Christopher tried to intimidate Ben Kingsley and robbed Lauren Bacall of a gift basket that she received at an awards ceremony. "Murmur" later attended Christopher' belated bachelor party at Nuovo Vesuvio and continued to hang out with the crew at Satriale's. "Murmur" was skeptical of the benefits of Christopher's relationship with fellow addict Julianna Skiff, warning Christopher that it could be enabling (to relapse into substance abuse), and of the possibility of Tony finding out about his recent slip at the Feast of St. Elzear. He was also responsible for informing Tony that Philip "Phil" Leotardo had a heart attack - Tony had warmed to him a little by this point and rewarded him with a club soda.

In 2007, in the episode "The Blue Comet", "Murmur" (unknowingly) informed Paulie and Silvio, by showing them a newspaper article on the murders of two civilians, that Phil Leotardo is still alive and the job to kill him failed because the hitmen had misidentified their target.
