Nancy Lou Marchand (June 19, 1928 – June 18, 2000) was an American actress. She portrayed Livia Soprano in a main role of The Sopranos. Marchand died of lung cancer in 2000, one day before her 72nd birthday. After her death, she made a posthumous appearance on the show in the second episode of the third season using computer-generated imagery of her past appearances, a process which cost $250,000 to make.
Marchand is the first cast member of The Sopranos who died, and the only one who died while the show was still in production.
