Ray Curto about his promise to Nucci[src]

Nucci Curto was married to Raymond, a veteran captain in the DiMeo crime family, and they had at least one son together in 1980;[1] but she was apparently dissatisfied with Ray's continuing service to the family at his age, and coupled with having to care of their child as a result of his multiple sclerosis condition, her husband had promised to do less work and stay at home to take care of the family.[2]

Nucci is escorted out of Melissa Barese's wedding by Ray.

When the captains are discussing who to nominate as boss of the family to oppose Junior, Tony suggests to Ray that he should step up due to his seniority and long-standing, but he dissents, stating that he promised to his wife Nucci that he would do less mob work and take care of their sclerotic son, though he admits that Tony correctly assessed how he would enjoy the top spot if not for the scrutiny inherent to the position.[2] A year later, Ray and Nucci attend Larry Barese's daughter Melissa's wedding, but the occasion is quickly interrupted when Larry announces one of his debtors has learned through a mistress working at FBI headquarters that federal indictments against the family are underway; when discussing how to manage the situation, they all concur they should leave the event and dispose of incriminating evidence any of them might have. Ray roughly grabs Nucci and pushes her from a table where she was dining with friends to take her home, much to her chagrin.[3]
