Satriale's Pork Store is an Italian Meat Market located in Kearny, New Jersey. It is frequented by members of the DiMeo Crime Family, mostly the Soprano Crew.

History[]

Pre 1970s[]

Satriale's Pork Store was owned and managed by Francis Satriale, a butcher who in the early 1970s got into debt with Johnny Soprano due to his compulsive gambling. Johnny Soprano severed Satriale's pinky finger whilst Junior Soprano held him down in the backroom of Satriale's Pork Store due to nonpayment of debts. While this may have been outright refusal, an argument between Satriale and the elder Soprano about a free delivery to the Soprano residence suggested that he could not afford the debt and attempted to make good by payment in kind. The incident was witnessed by a young Tony Soprano, who was supposed to be waiting in the car outside. A short time later, due to Mr. Satriale being in debt, Johnny Boy Soprano 'partnered' with Mr. Satriale in the Pork Store in the form of a bust out. Mr. Satriale died shortly after the bankruptcy fraud was complete, and ownership passed to Johnny Soprano. This had caused some negative ramifications for the neighborhood, as Mr. Satriale had taken his life by shooting himself in the head. It is likely no civilians knew of the reason behind the suicide; as Mr. Satriale had been a beloved figure in the neighborhood, this caused sadness and gossip. To overcome this, Johnny Soprano started an annual tradition where he would dress up as Santa Claus and give gifts to the children at a Christmas party for the neighborhood residents.

Under the Sopranos[]

Since Johnny Boy Soprano took over the Pork Store, Satriale's has become a popular hang out for members of the DiMeo Crime Family, particulary the Soprano Crew. When Johnny Soprano died in October 1986, he bequeathed the butcher shop to his son Anthony, who is the current owner. Salvatore Bonponsiero took over the role of Santa Claus for the annual Christmas parties. The outside of the Pork Store has several small tables and chairs where members of the Soprano Crew lounge when the weather is agreeable. Inside the store is a large counter where orders are made and a small area for dining. Further into the store, past its kitchen where meat is cut up and processed, is the main meeting area of the Soprano Crew. The room is outfitted with a small kitchen, a large dining table, several articles of decorations and pictures on its walls, and even a small mattress. Though this room is primarily for social gatherings, Tony has a small desk installed in the rare event that business need to be handled. It was at one point used for Sit downs such as when Johnny Sack had a sit down with Junior Soprano in 1998.
