Skip Lipari is a recurring character portrayed by Louis Lombardi. He is an FBI agent, who was the handler for DiMeo crime family soldier turned informant Salvatore Bonpensiero from 1998 to 2000.
Biography[]
Skip Lipari was born to a family of Italian descent, the son of a plumber. He later became an FBI agent, and he was sent to handle informant Salvatore Bonpensiero, a high-ranking and trusted soldier of the Soprano crew in the DiMeo crime family. Lipari heavily suggested that Bonpensiero participated in the murder of Matthew Bevilaqua, but ultimately lacked proof. Bonpensiero would come to confide in Lipari as a friend, but Lipari constantly reminded him that he was not his friend, but that Bonpensiero was working for the government. Lipari had been warned against getting too close to a cooperating witness, which he seemed to take seriously. When Bonpensiero presented Lipari with a bottle of scotch, Lipari said FBI agents are not allowed to take gifts. Lipari reported this to his boss, Frank Cubitoso, who seemed somewhat dismissive over Lipari's concerns, showing that Tony Soprano has also given gifts, although Soprano does so to be funny and flout FBI policy.
Confiding in Salvatore, Skip mentions that he was passed over for a promotion in the FBI field office where he works, by a Samoan colleague with less experience than him, who came straight out of Quantico. It is unknown what his fate was on the show, it is likely he resigned from the FBI or he transferred to pursue other work after Bonpensiero was presumed missing.
